Are My Incontinence Products Covered By Medicaid?

Question: I’m On Medicaid. Are My Incontinence Products Covered?

AnswerMedicaid is a health insurance program available to over 76 million Americans who are low-income, elderly, disabled or blind. Medicaid provides those who qualify with access and coverage to receive medically necessary supplies, including incontinence products. However, determining whether the particular incontinence products you wish to use are covered and how to locate a supply provider that carries them can be tricky, because each state follows its own Medicaid guidelines.

State Medicaid programs typically cover medically necessary incontinence supplies, including youth products, such as disposable tape-tab briefs, pull-on underwear, underpads and booster pads. Incontinence supplies benefits under Medicaid typically start for children with complex healthcare needs at ages 3 or 4*, which is when children are usually potty-trained.

You can see if you qualify and learn about Medicaid rules affecting you a few different ways:

You will also need to talk to or meet with your physician for medical documentation to receive incontinence supplies through Medicaid. You typically must obtain at least one of the following:

  • Physician’s prescription with a qualifying diagnosis
  • Prior Authorization (PA)
  • Letter/Certificate of Medical Necessity (LMN)

If you desire a specific brand or style of incontinence product, make sure to mention this to your doctor. You should also provide your doctor with an estimated number of products you use per day.

If you are confused with the Medicaid process, Tranquility® can help. Our team will work with you and your family to navigate Medicaid guidelines in your state and locate a Medicaid incontinence supply provider in your area.

*Parents or caregivers of children born with a disability are encouraged to immediately explore potential Medicaid benefits or other social services for which their child may be eligible. They will typically work with a social services professional, often referred to as a “case manager,” who will help them navigate the Medicaid application process or other social services their child may be eligible for starting at birth.

How to Choose the Best Incontinence Products: A Complete Comparison

Bladder control problems are common in both men and women, yet most people are left scratching their head at the pharmacy shelf, overwhelmed by options. The right choice usually depends on many factors like the type/level of leakage, mobility, daily routine and more.
That’s a lot to weigh in on, so some direction can be helpful. Drawing from hands-on care experience, this guide compares the six main product types so you can get the best incontinence products to suit your needs.

Ask The Expert: From A Doctor’s Perspective What Are Some Common Questions You Hear?

If you’ve ever sneezed and held your breath hoping for the best, you’re not alone. Bladder leaks, pelvic floor issues, and the constellation of symptoms that go with them are incredibly common — and incredibly under-discussed. We sat down with two of our favorite experts who are changing the bladder leak conversation: Dr. Barbara Frank, Attn: Grace medical advisor and board certified OB/GYN, and Dr. Sara Reardon, pelvic floor physical therapist (and the woman your pelvic floor has been waiting to meet). They took turns asking each other the questions their patients ask most — and answered them with the same candor they bring to the exam room. They cover everything from how to prepare for postpartum, to what question to ask your own pelvic floor PT, to how to manage incontinence during menopause. This is a knowledge drop you don’t want to miss.

Why So Many Women Put Themselves Last — and Why It Matters

Women are often the caregivers, planners, problem-solvers, and emotional anchors for everyone around them. They manage households, careers, children, aging parents, relationships, schedules, and responsibilities that rarely stop.

And somewhere in the middle of taking care of everyone else, many women quietly stop taking care of themselves.

They ignore symptoms. Delay appointments. Push through exhaustion. Normalize discomfort. Tell themselves they’ll deal with it “later.”

But later can turn into years.

This Women’s Health Month, it’s worth asking:
When was the last time you truly prioritized your own health
