Editorial Standards
At the National Association For Continence, our goal is to provide clear, compassionate, and practical information for people living with bladder and bowel health conditions, as well as the caregivers and healthcare professionals who support them.
We know that topics like incontinence, overactive bladder, pelvic floor disorders, bowel leakage, and related conditions can feel difficult to talk about. Our content is designed to help people better understand their symptoms, learn about available treatment and management options, and feel more prepared to talk with a healthcare provider.
Who Creates NAFC Content
NAFC content is created and updated by the NAFC Editorial Staff. Our team brings experience in healthcare communications, patient education, pharmaceutical and medical writing, nonprofit health advocacy, and continence-related education.
We create content with patients and caregivers in mind. That means we aim to use plain language, explain medical terms clearly, and offer practical next steps whenever possible.
How We Develop Content
When creating or updating educational content, NAFC may use a combination of reputable medical and clinical sources, peer-reviewed research, public health information, clinical guidelines, professional society resources, input from healthcare professionals, patient and caregiver questions, NAFC survey data, and community insights.
Our goal is to make complex bladder and bowel health topics easier to understand while encouraging readers to seek appropriate medical care when needed.
Medical Review
NAFC works with members of its Medical Advisory Board and other qualified healthcare professionals to help ensure our educational content is accurate, responsible, and useful for patients and caregivers.
Content is reviewed by clinical experts as needed, especially when it covers medical conditions, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options, medications, procedures, or other topics where clinical guidance is important.
Because NAFC maintains a large library of educational content, review practices may vary by page, topic, and date of publication. As we update older content, we continue to prioritize accuracy, clarity, and patient safety.
Updates And Accuracy
Bladder and bowel health information can change over time. NAFC works to review and update priority content on an ongoing basis, especially pages that receive significant traffic, address common patient questions, or cover important diagnosis and treatment topics.
When we update a page, we may revise the content for accuracy, clarity, readability, search visibility, accessibility, internal linking, and usefulness to patients and caregivers.
Our Approach To Patient Education
NAFC content is intended to educate and support, not to replace medical care. We encourage readers to talk with a qualified healthcare provider about new, worsening, or concerning symptoms.
We also aim to reduce stigma. Many bladder and bowel health conditions are common, treatable, and manageable. Our content is designed to help people feel less alone and more confident seeking help.
Sponsored Or Partner Content
NAFC may work with sponsors, partners, or grant funders to support educational programs, campaigns, tools, and resources. When content is created with sponsor or partner support, we aim to keep the information educational, accurate, and aligned with NAFC’s mission.
Sponsor support does not replace NAFC’s commitment to providing patient-centered information. Where appropriate, sponsor or partner relationships may be disclosed on the relevant page or campaign materials.
