What if he rips the zippered mattress cover off and refuses to keep sheets on mattress? I’m at a loss I’ve replaced his mattress 2 times now and now the 3rd mattress is on its way to being ruined. IT can’t be healthy having that smell in there I clean up as soon as it’s wet and have tried everything he refuses to wet in his diaper he is recovering from a stroke with brain injury on top of it. Please any help would be appreciated.
My husband uses a hospital issue pee bottle with a lid. I hear him empty it in the morning, and am fairly confident he is not incontinent. He’s hemiplegic as a result of stroke, so I think it’s a question of poor dexterity and being half asleep. He’s peeing lying down rather than disturbing himself too much. I just changed the sheets and there’s a HUGE yellow stain on the mattress protector. He also has aphasia, so communication isn’t easy. How can I address this without a very involved conversation? I’m struggling with so many aspects of his care and our lives generally, this discovery is just too much for me 😔

From Amazon, I bought what was supposed to be a waterproof queen size flat sheet. It is both too short and too narrow to fit on a deep mattress. The skin facing side is soft, but the top is slick so the covers slide around. We have exhausted every avenue except catheters, including Botox and the implanted neurostimulator. We use a waterproof mattress cover, pads under and over the fitted sheet, and my husband wears a Night Defense diaper with an extra liner. Still, he wets through all of that, plus the blanket and comforter almost nightly.
Highly recommend the brand Abena for the nightmare pull-ups, booster pads, and slips (diapers with tabs for adults) – they have some of the most absorbent versions and I usually put a booster pad with a slip and replace the booster pad every few hours so it’s easier than having to change out an entire pull-up or slip
Doesn’t mean there aren’t hiccups, many times my mom will shift or pull on the booster pad to cause a leak
So also recommend the Medline brand of ultraborbs pads – the hospitals use them and I cut them in half and slip the half under my moms area to catch any leaks and replace as well through the night if they happen

I’ve been using Defense Soap Body Wipes 400 count tub for my camping. I found a reviewer saying it literally removed the urine scent from his father-in-law when he started using it as wipes. So. I’ve given this to my dad and removed all the other wipes from his bathroom. This wipes along with the perineal spray will be more helpful for both my dad and the care takers – me and my mom.

We also have Depends that do nothing much except for #2 issues. I’m not dealing with my Dad pulling the catheter off. At first I thought it was accidental but now I’m finding it in his hand. There is no pain, skin issue. He has Parkinson’s and some Dementia so I guess we may be looking at some depression. There is nothing that keeps adult mens beds dry, they pee through everything. We do tow washes a day for bed clothes, is 2023, you’d think they’d have something to keep men’s beds dry all Night. Depends night time, depends realfit, all the other named brands, nope they don’t work. We have the flat sheet abd the encasement for the mattress, we just would like to get a break from doing laundry and changing bedding constantly.
